Bulker collision off China

The Hong Kong-flagged Bright Century collided with Liberian-flagged Sea Success on 2 May off Weihai City in Shandong province. The 1997-built capesize Bright Century sank while

1998-built handysize Sea Success remained afloat  despite its prow being filled with water.

 

The Bright Century carried a crew of 23 Chinese, and the Sea Success had a crew of 23 Indians. All 46 people had been rescued.

There was no immediate information on any environmental damage.

The city’s maritime safety bureau said that fog might have been a factor in the casualty.

Maritime officials in Hong Kong and China have launched an investigation.
